Fall Hutch {Pumpkins & Chevron}

It's starting to feel like Fall here in Tennessee! The trees are drying out and the leaves will soon be changing colors. Everyone is predicting a colorful Fall with all the rain we got over the Summer. I have been itching to get all my Summer decor down and get the Fall stuff out. I finally accomplished that this weekend!

I am sharing my hutch all decorated for the Autumnal season. If you want to see how I've decorated this hutch in the past you can check it out here: Halloween, Valentines, Easter and Spring/Summer. You can also go to this post to see how I transformed this $25 hutch with paint.

As you can tell the theme for this year's Fall hutch is PUMPKINS!! I am not sure how I ended up with so much pumpkin decor but I have a bunch and I'm putting it all to good use this year. I just love pumpkins so I don't mind that I have so many. What says Fall better than a pumpkin?!

Haley - 1 Month Old!

I cannot believe that one whole month has come and gone for our sweet, precious Haley! She is just the sweetest and best baby ever!! I am biased of course. LOL Here is what she has been up to so far in her first month of life.

Weight: Not totally sure but I would guess she is past the 8 lb mark
Height: Probably still close to 20 inches long

Sleep:

Haley is so much better of a sleeper than Jonah ever thought about being and that has been a God-send! She goes 3 to 3.5 hours between bottles and takes about an hour to 2 hour nap between feedings. She still gets up twice in the night to eat. Once usually around midnight to 1:00 a.m. and then again around 4:30 to 5:00 in the morning. She sleeps very soundly in the night (or maybe we just pass out so deeply we don't hear her LOL). She doesn't just wake up and scream for the bottle either. She just kind of starts stirring and then we know it's time for her to eat because she never goes back to sleep once she starts stirring. I usually feed the midnight one and then Michael does the early morning one so I can rest more. It takes her a good 20 minutes to finish a bottle and then burp and sometimes she has gas so the whole process is almost an hour worth in the night. It's great to have Michael's help at night and especially as I transition back to working.

Haley is a noisy sleeper though. She grunts and wallows around in the bed for a while but she does go to sleep on her own. I don't remember Jonah being so noisy or going to sleep without our help. She does like the pacifier from time to time to get her calmed down enough for sleep. She takes it in spurts though. All in all, we are so grateful for her being a good sleeper this time around...we are older than we were with Jonah, ya know! LOL

Haley is also a great napper and she can sleep through anything. We don't make Jonah be super quiet when she is asleep and he plays with is toys (many that make noises) and it never phases her. She even slept through the lawn mower while we were outside the other day. Michael was mowing with Jonah on there with him and so we were outside and it was loud. I had her ears covered with a blanket but still. I don't know how she did that!

Eating:

Haley takes 3.5 ounces at each bottle already and I am sure we will be up to 4 ounces soon. We haven't had any issues with her formula and she does not seem to have any major gas issues other than the normal stuff. She does not spit up regularly either, which I attribute a lot of that to having her adjusted twice already by our family chiropractor. Once at the hospital the night she was born and then last week he adjusted her again.

Personality:

Haley is just the most content baby! We can just lay her down anywhere and she is just happy to be there and will fall asleep just about anywhere too. The only time she fusses is if she is having a gas pain and then once it's passed you can lay her back wherever she was and she is fine. She just seems to be an easy-going baby for the most part and we have gotten lots of little smiles (probably gas but we'll take it) and coos already.

Milestones:

Lots of firsts of course.

-First bath
-First trip to church, Roro's, Nana's, Hobby Lobby, grocery store and Dr. office
-First time sleeping in crib
-First smiles and coos
-Loosing her cord stump

Loves:

Haley loves her swing and bouncy seat. She loves her bottle and pacifier. She also loves white noise like fans and the dishwasher running. She loves her bath and has never fussed once when she is getting bathed. I think she also loves her Mommy, Daddy and big brother too.

Hates:

She hates being dressed and having her arms handled too much. She hates the car seat sometimes too. I think she hates it because her little head has to be squished in the newborn support and then we have to handle her arms a bit to get her latched in and she doesn't like that. Once she is comfy she will go right to sleep in the car though.

1 Month Pictures!!

We just love how Haley has rounded out our little family and can't wait for all the fun that she will continue to bring to our lives. I am hoping to post some more before I have to go back to work full time. I want to write about how Jonah has taken to being a big brother and some other happenings around our home. Stay tuned!

Jonah's 1st Fish

This past Labor Day weekend was so nice and relaxing! On Saturday evening we went down to Land Between The Lakes to Piney Campground where my in-laws were camping for the weekend. This campground is just down the highway from our town and it's THE BEST as far as campgrounds go. Large lots with tons of shade and kids can ride bikes everywhere. We took Jonah's fishing pole along and he and his Daddy were looking forward to doing some fishing off the dock near the boat launch. Haley and I stayed back in the air-conditioned motor home (it was sooo hot!). Jonah, Michael and Poppa went down to the dock and got Jonah all fixed up with a cricket as his bait. Michael's Dad, Bill kept a watch on the line even though Jonah had a lot of slack in the line from moving around and when he saw the bobber go under he snatched the line to set the hook for Jonah. Then Jonah got to reel it in!!

We were all so proud of him and as you can tell from the pictures he is pretty proud of himself too! When anyone asks him how big his fish was he always says "it was 30 pounds, 80 pounds!" LOL He is already a true fisherman!!

Fishing for the first time!

 Proud fisherman!!

Haley's Newborn Photos

On Monday we met with our fantastic local photographer to get some newborn shots of Haley and a couple of her and Jonah together. Jonah didn't want to cooperate much so we probably only got this one good shot of them both but it just melts my heart!! Our photographer literally only had about 30 seconds of cooperation from Jonah before he was over it. So this just shows how talented she is.

Haley did wonderful. She had the studio very nice and warm and so we got to do some naked shots. She slept through the whole photo shoot and let us move her around pretty easily. I am dying to get these printed up big and hung on the wall!!

Haley's Birth Story

At my Dr. appointment on Wednesday, July 31st, I found out that my Dr. had already put me on the schedule to be induced on my due date of Monday, Aug. 5th. I was so excited and relieved to know that if I did not go into labor that week or weekend, that I would be induced on Monday. I was still only 1-2 cm dilated at that appointment but the Dr. said her head was locked in and ready and that I probably would not have to push very long once I was fully dilated and effaced. That was good to know too but I kind of already knew that since I had been experiencing a ton of pressure for a couple of weeks already.

So we spent the rest of that week busily prepping last minute things and cleaning the house really good (Michael cleaned at least and my Mom came and helped) on Saturday and went to church on Sunday like usual. After church Michael and I headed to the hospital to get pre-registered and get my blood work done in advance. Jonah stayed the night with my parents, who were going to get him up and fed breakfast and then take him to my Granny's (Jonah's great-grandmother's) house so they could come up to the hospital. It was really hard to say goodbye to him that evening knowing it was the last time we would do so with him as the only child. But we left one of Haley's gifts, a pink stuffed giraffe, for him to bring to the hospital with him when he came to see her for the first time. He was really excited about "taking care" of the giraffe for Haley.

Monday morning came dark and early as we had to be at the hospital by 5:30 so they could get started around 6:00. We got straight up to our room and I got changed and in the bed. The night nurse started checking us in and then it was time for the IV. I had been dreading this part more than anything because they had a hard time getting the IV started with Jonah and it hurt like heck! Well this nurse had a hard time too putting it in my hand and then I made the mistake of looking down at it while she was trying. I started getting light-headed and broke out into a cold sweat all over and I told her that I was about to pass out. I had not been allowed to eat since midnight so I know low-blood-sugar was probably part of it too. They laid me back flat and I was able to come out of the feeling of passing out and another night nurse came in and tried to get the IV and was successful...thank God! Only problem was they stuck me on the fatty part of hand right below my thumb and into my wrist area. It was so sore and bothersome for hours but at least it was in.

At 7:00 the shift changed and I found out that a great friend from my high school was going to be my L&D nurse. I was so relieved to know she would be helping us because she is just a wonderful and caring person and the best nurse. She even bagged up my clothes I changed out of before Michael could get to them. LOL It was great to also have someone to just chat with to take my mind off of everything else.

My sister, Audrey was the first to arrive and then my mother-in-law and then my Mom and Dad. Dad insisted on staying out in the waiting area but we kept him updated with texts and stuff. The started my pitocin pretty early and the contractions were very manageable. I think they had it at level 8 (it goes up to 20) before I requested my epidural. Before I got the epidural my Dr. checked me and broke my water and it really did not hurt. The epidural also went really smoothly and the worst part was the pinch, sting and burn and then it just feels weird back there. Once I had the epidural they checked me again and I was at 3. About 45 minutes later they checked and I was 4.5-5. So I was happy to know that I was progressing. During this time we all just chatted and I watched TV and dozed off and on. They all got some lunch and ate out in the waiting room and everything was just going so smoothly. Then I started to feel the pressure about 30 minutes later, at around 12:30.

I pushed my nurse call button and told them I was feeling a lot of pressure. Sure enough, my nurse checked me again and I was already up to an 8...in 30 minutes!! Everyone was excited and they were going to let the Dr. know that it would not be long before I would be ready to push probably. I also found out that there were 4 other women on the floor in labor too and it was just a race to see who would deliver first.

Well I just kept feeling that pressure and took the time to push my epidural pen a couple of times to be sure I was fully drugged up before the pushing started. With Jonah, I could really feel the contractions when I was pushing and while I wanted to feel them somewhat with her...I also wanted to be good and numb. LOL

So by around 2:00 I started pushing. I had my Mom on my right and Michael on my left side helping me. Audrey stayed back behind the Dr. because she wanted to watch (she is going into OB/GYN at medical school). My mother-in-law just really wanted to be in the room for the birth but she has really bad knee problems so she sat in a chair up near my head but behind where my Mom was. I was so glad that I got to have everyone I wanted in the room with me this time. At Jonah's birth I had to pick only 2 people due to my high BP issues and them needing extra staff people, I guess.

Haley Rose was born at 2:28 p.m. on Monday, August 5th and weighed 6 lbs, 13 oz and was 20 inches long.

When she came out I got to watch them suction her and she cried immediately in the Dr.'s hands. Then once they cleared her mouth they laid her on my lap and I got to talk to her and look at her beautiful face. Then they whisked her away to get cleaned up and Michael went over with her at my request of course. My Mom videoed her getting cleaned up for us too. My sister stayed by my side while they did the "other stuff" that they have to do after birth and that was a very special thing for me too.

After they got her cleaned up and brought her over for me to hold, I was told that I had some time to nurse her right then if I wanted to but they also told me that hospital policy was now that you needed to decide whether you were going to nurse or bottle-feed exclusively pretty soon after delivery. I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to bottle-feed exclusively but was leaning in that direction since breast-feeding was unsuccessful with Jonah. I decided to go ahead and nurse her right then and I am so glad I chose to do that because it was wonderful for getting to bond with her so quickly and everyone left us alone to enjoy each other for a good hour. I knew in my heart that I would choose to bottle-feed for my sake and hers since I was not sure that my milk supply would be efficient enough like with Jonah. Of course there are many other reasons why I made that choice but I won't go into all of them now or ever on here probably since they are just personal ones exclusive to our situation and life.

After that, they took Haley to the nursery and my Dad finally got to see her through the window while they checked her out. I got to eat my early supper of Zaxby's chicken and fries and it never tasted so good to me. LOL Then they got us over to our post-postpartum room and we got settled in. My Mom and Dad left to go get Jonah since he would be staying with them that night and I was so glad I did not have to worry about him. He also had a great day at Granny's house but did not nap. I was just glad to know that he was happy and well cared for.

We did not get Haley back to our room from the nursery until a little after 7 pm...ugh...I was not too happy about that but every time I called the nursery, they said they were doing reports and then there was a shift change. Our chiropractor and my cousin's husband came by after his office hours and adjusted Haley at the hospital. I was so thankful we able to have him do that for us just like he did for Jonah. It makes such a difference and he said that she did need a slight adjustment.

We fed Haley and she had a couple of dirty diapers before we finally decided to call the nursery to take her back (around 11:30) for the night. We both were exhausted from the day and needed some decent rest. The next morning I found out that I would get to be released whenever the baby was by my Dr. and was happy to know that. We also learned from the on-call pediatrician that Haley looked great and scored a 9 on her tests and she would probably get released later that evening when the Dr. came back from clinic. So we had some time in the morning to get a good shower, breakfast and then they brought her to us. My Mom and Granny brought Jonah up to the hospital that morning too around 10:00. He was so sweet and excited to meet his little sister and he did so good...way better than either of us expected with seeing me holding her and seeing everyone else get to hold her too. He was just beaming and so proud and he looked like he was 5 instead of 3 compared to her tiny self.

We got to come home late on Tuesday evening and we soldiered through our first night with a newborn. Haley is just a wonderful baby and we are so blessed that the Lord chose her for us. She is such a wonderful gift and the perfect addition to our family!

Happy to have our girl finally!

Waiting...

Let's get the exciting news over with first!

I am scheduled to be induced early Monday morning!! So unless Haley's decides to make her debut before then, she will be born on her due date of August 5th!

I went in for my regular check-up on Tuesday and the nurse told me that I was on the schedule. My Dr. was on vacation this week and went ahead and set it up. I was so relieved because I really didn't want to go past my due date.

So now we are just in a stage of waiting and prepping last-minute things before we go to the hospital on Monday. We have to be there at like 5:30 in the morning...and the hospital is a good 40 minute drive from our house.

Here is what we've been up to this week so far.

1. NESTING!! I am in full nesting mode and have been all this week and last week. I had the laundry all caught up on Monday and I'm catching it back up again today. I cleaned out and dusted my van. I made up a couple more meals to freeze. I've been getting paperwork and stuff together and finishing up work stuff all this week. Today is my last day of work too! I've been trying to keep the house straight all this week too so that we don't come home to a house that looks like it's been hit by a tornado.

2. SWEET CORN! Our favorite local farm has been selling their sweet corn this week and Mom and I got a whole mess of it. (That is what we call a bunch of corn in the south LOL) I got 2 dozen ears and my Mom got 5 dozen. I shucked 1 dozen on Monday and put it up in the freezer and cooked some of it. It was delicous!! Here is a picture Mom sent me of Jonah helping her when she was shucking her's. He really did try to help!

3. THANK YOUS! I knew this time around that I wanted to have something prepared as a thank you for the nurses and Dr. at the hospital. I so wished I had done something for them after having Jonah so I decided to just do some bags of candy with a little thank you tag. You can never have too much chocolate! I think they turned out pretty cute!

4. My emotions and mood have been all over the place this week (at 39 weeks pregnant, can you blame me?!). I feel bad that I've been grouchy toward Michael and probably Jonah too. I've tried hard not to take it out on them but it just happens sometimes. I am so miserable, physically, with swollen ankles and I can't bend over hardly at all. So if something falls on the floor....it just stays there. There is so much that is just so hard right now. Helping Jonah get dressed is even a chore and I have given up helping with a bath for him because that would involve getting in the floor and having to get back up. I am just so ready to have my body back and to have this little miss in my arms! I told Michael this week that he should count his lucky stars that it's taken me to the very end of my pregnancy to feel like I do and to just tell him I need him to help with stuff I normally do. As you can tell....I've been lovely to be around. LOL

Please just say a prayer for a safe delivery and health baby girl on Monday! I would appreciate it!
